The thing: The State of Alaska wants to hand nearly 20,000 acres of public land just north of Houston to its own development agency, AIDEA, for what the paperwork calls the Houston Industrial Park.

The plans floated so far: a rail and freight hub near the Alaska Railroad and Parks Highway, utility corridors, and large-scale data centers.

The deadline: Written public comments close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19.

The catch: Straight from the state's own notice:

"Only persons from whom DNR DMLW LCS receives timely, written comment during the identified comment period will be eligible to file an appeal of the Final Finding and Decision or related actions."

In plain English: if you don't comment in writing before the deadline, you give up your right to challenge the decision later.
